Mystic Seaport Museum
Among one of our absolute favorites this outdoor museum is a showcase of New England history and coastal life. Plus one of the only historic-quality ship restoration shipyards in the nation. The Mayflower regulalry visits for maintenance. A stones through from the farm, suggest ordering a 100 Acer Wood picnic basket and spending the afternoon on the spacious lawns at the museum.

Misquamicut State Park Beach
The Misquamicut State Beach is a three-mile park along the Atlantic Ocean. The Rhode Island state park features several facilities like parking areas, hot and cold showers, changing rooms, restrooms, first aid, and a lifeguard, plus a swingset and play area for children, a picnic deck area, and concession stands. $20 daily parking.

Fort Griswold
This is where it “all went down” the battle of Fort Griswold… On September 6, 1781, the British landed 800 men on the Groton side of the Thames River, about 1 ½ miles south of Fort Griswold, as well as an additional 800 soldiers on the New London side. The combined forces were commanded by General Benedict Arnold, who was from Norwich, Connecticut. Learn the story and walk the bunkers and artillery fields.

Lantern Hill
LOCAL: Aside from the hiking, you can do right here on the farm, Lantern Hill has been voted the best place for hiking with views, it served the revolutionary war troops an advantage point to warn of incoming troops. The hike does have some steep terrain and rock so suggest walking sticks which you can borrow from the farm and packing a bag with water and snacks. Avalonia now conserves 4000 acres of land, preserved in perpetuity. Where appropriate, trails are maintained for passive enjoyment, including hiking, birdwatching, nature study, and photography.
